Event Management Case Studies

Imogene Pass Run

In its 48-year history, the past 20 events have been under CJ Sports Timing management.  From our first event with the IPR in 2000, we have directed great growth and success of this highly acclaimed trail running event. Participation has more than doubled and the race sells out in less than 20 minutes!

This 17.1 mile point-to-point race over the 13,114’ Imogene Pass is extremely challenging from the logistical perspective. The event now runs like clockwork every year earning praise and acclaim from the trail running community.  The popularity can be attributed to the quality of the event taking all the athletes needs into consideration and delivering on this year after year.

The Imogene Pass Run has been written about in all the journals and magazines with mentions in books as well.  In 2019, a few runners published a book specifically about the Imogene and released it with success being heralded as an inspirational icon for trail runners everywhere.  Check out “To Imogene, a Flagstaff Love Letter” at a bookstore near you.

USASA Southwest Colorado Snowboard/Freeski Series Event Management

In 1995 the series was added to the USASA’s web of 30+ regional snowboard competition series calendar producing 10-15 events per season in 5 different disciplines.  Our event management strategy was very grassroots with great support from the national body. The series spanned 3 resort partners in the region developing strong relationships and expansive growth.  After bringing this from concept to practice and producing over 100 events in its first 7 years of operation, the series was given to the local Ski and Snowboard Club and continues to this day.  This series has provided a pipeline for local and national level athletes to achieve success in all levels of sport.  Athletes including Hagen Kearney, Nick Baumgartner, Lindsey Jacobellis, Gus Kenworthy and many others have grown from the Southwest Colorado Series to become World Cup and Olympic competitors.

Telluride World Cup

Building on the success of the USASA Southwest Colorado Series, we turned our event management experience to the next challenge. The Telluride FIS World Cup Freeski and Snowboard Cross  The event which ran from 2009-2012 defined quality on a global scale with athletes and nations praising it for “raising the bar” and producing the best SBX event on the calendar for those years and driving the world to try and step up with the quality and precision in which the Telluride World Cup exhibited.  Challenges were many and varied during the years. However the preparations and good decisions made made the weather and other physical challenges seem nonexistent from the outside as the event shined above all difficulties.  World Cup organizers and local marketing continue to use photos of the event to show new hosts how it should be done.

A gold standard that is hard to duplicate!
